Having sent their last off to college, close friends of designer Dawn longed to modernize their traditional family home.

The one-of-a-kind Highpoint rug served as the focal point of the dining room. Hues of blue in the rug and dining chairs contrast the whimsy walls treated with grasscloth covering.

The living room received new furniture—built-in bookshelves painted black for contrast and the couple’s collection of trinkets styled.

The existing cabinetry was painted white and accented with a unique backsplash composed of marble, stone, metal and glass. Hand-forged metal seated bar stools grace the custom island. A new doorway to the dining room created composition.

A breakfast nook was styled with a Knoll table for morning coffee and a petite bourbon bar for evening gatherings.

Renovation included dining room, living room, kitchen and powder room.
